Going the extra mile… or fifty
Today, I made the morning commute twice. Hazel had forgotten her stuffed animal for the “stuffy day” in her Grade 4 class, and being the only student without one would have made for a sad day. So, I drove back to our farm, found her stuffy, and delivered it. The extra half of an hour of driving was worth every minute. I’m grateful to live a life where I have the flexibility to make time for these small but meaningful acts.
This is the essence of a concept we use at work called ‘radical hospitality’. It is the idea that serving people above and beyond the ‘normal’ expectation, often leaves people disproportionately satisfied, and spreads the ripples of good into the world. In business it’s these “little things” that can transform a routine client experience into a memorable one.
Where might you lend extra effort,
listen with a little more attention,
or simply add a splash of fun?
That’s a peak ethos.
