The Simulation

For the past few years I’ve spent quite a bit of time reflecting on the idea that we may be in a simulation.
I do not have great conviction that we are in fact plugged into the matrix walking around in a sea of binary code, but rather I am fascinated by the thought experiment that arises when you consider what it would mean if we were.
Every time I face a frustration or burden, I imagine my puppeteer in the sky operating this avatar on earth, looking for quests and challenges. As with any great story or game, the fun and excitement always arise out of conflict and challenge.
And If I was controlling ‘me’ from above, I’d be constantly seeking experiences that would make the game of life much more fun and interesting, even if they appeared to be hardships initially.
So this morning while we repaired a leaking hydraulic line, in a race to finish seeding Canola, I held a different perspective.
Instead of grumbling with frustration at our ill luck, and cursing the delay,
I imagined ‘me’ in the sky casting down another challenge, gifting my character the ability to learn a new skill, take on another quest, and generally level-up.
Welcome to the simulation.
Now that’s a peak ethos.
