Context is everything

While following a vehicle with a large bumper sticker boldly touting “Remember the Creator and Prepare to Meet Him”, I was more than a little amused.

Depending on my tone of voice as I exclaimed the message out loud, the intent changed from ominous, to caring, to pious.

I never did establish the purpose, or organization, touting this message of truth, nor could I determine which ‘creator’ they were referring to,

but it did remind me about the importance of context.

Although you may know the intent of your message, and you are sure everyone understands you, there is a high likelihood that just like a game of telephone, something will inevitably be lost along the way.

Be clear, know your audience, and ‘read the room’ (or the streets!).

  • Now that’s a peak ethos.
