Yes, thank you!

I tend to struggle with unwanted surprises or changes to my structured routine, but I’ve started using the mantra, “Yes, thank you”, to help me overcome this weakness.

The goal is to accept circumstances as they arise, use them as learning and growth, without playing the victim. Yes, thank you, forces the recognition that life is happening exactly how it is supposed to be at this moment, and hardships today are teaching me the lessons I will need to become better.

Yes, thank you that I got to practice patience in the Tim Horton’s drive through today.

Yes, thank you I was able to get 30 extra minutes of cardio shovelling a three foot snow drift.

Yes, thank you that the minus 40 degree winter has kept poisonous snakes out of our area.

Yes, thank you for all Olive’s trips to the Stollery Children’s Hospital which taught us what real problems look like, and that our family was truly blessed.

Yes, thank you is awfully hard to say, when things get tough, but it feels immensely liberating to declare the optimism that each challenge is exactly what we need to experience on this journey.

Forged in the fires of challenge.
