What we value

I taught Hazel’s grade five class for the first time this year.

It was awesome.

I re-met all of her classmates, started a unit on mixed fractions, led an intense ‘swat ball’ game in the gym, and even customized a lesson on aviation. It forced Hazel and I to bond the week before as we created a custom Youtube video, and some 3-D prizes for our ‘flight’ lesson.

The fully immersive, father and daughter learning experience concluded with coaching basketball for her grade five and six peers. The perfect way to cap the day.

Despite the hundreds of other pressing tasks on my docket, the importance of this connection with Hazel’s life greatly trumped all else.

Trying to be  the ‘best dad possible’, is the value I prioritize my life around, and it feels pretty great when I occasionally knock it out of the park.

As Peter Drucker says “Show me your calendar, and I’ll show you your values”.

Make time for the things you value, and you will live with no regrets.

  • Now that’s a peak ethos.
