Goodbye my friend
It was a sad week as we said goodbye to a good friend and young teaching colleague taken from this world two months ago.
After the funeral, Karina and I were reflecting on my friendship with Kendall and the ridiculous number of things he accomplished in his short life. The best thing about running into him out and about in the community was that there he always had something interesting going on.
Kendal was always building something cool, planning a project, and more often than not, helping somebody.
He was my grade partner in science the year he was building a new house, and he would give me daily updates on the progress, often while pummelling students in basketball or dodgeball at lunch.
The year I organized our school's Terry Fox Run, he immediately volunteered to record the event with his drone, and it evolved into an epic production.
When we needed giant posters for our skating carnival, he took it on and got it done in days, despite having no connection to the club. He just loved helping the community.
From coaching and refereeing multiple sports, to building, to science, Kendall was one of those guys who was good at a lot of things, and it made him interesting.
It was always a joy to run into him out in the wild. He was never a Debbie Downer and you knew that when you talked to him, something good was always going on, and it often included his kids.
He was truly an example of the old saying, "If you need something done, give it to your busiest friend."
We need more people like Kendall, those who fix instead of complain, build rather than break, and leave places better than when they arrived.
Now that's a peak ethos.
