Ask questions

If you are like me, I will bet you can count on one hand,  the number of times someone has asked you meaningful questions about you. “What is Olive enjoying these days?,” or “How are you enjoying __________?”

Nothing leading, no setup to interject an opinion, or idea that they are itching to share, simply deep real questions from a place of curiosity and caring.

It is so rare.

We’ve discussed this often recently. Is it a general lack of curiosity? Is it poor training and practice? Is it a lack of empathy or ability to imagine a world outside of one’s own opinions and perspective?

No matter the cause, this creates an unbelievable opportunity for those of us well versed in asking great questions.

It lets us learn at a rapid pace, connect with others, and most importantly care about something other than our own selves.

As Karina reminded me, God gave us two ears and one mouth to remind us that we need to listen twice as much as we talk. And the best way to do this is by starting to ask more questions.

  • Now that’s a peak ethos.
