Anything but a backpack

An improv activity that I occasionally implement is 'taking an alternate route'.

Whether driving home from work, or walking out to do chores, intentionally taking a different path forces you to experience different sites, sounds, smells and allows you to engage with the world in a new way. This simple creative activity is one way to change perspective and learn something new.

This week when Mannville school embraced ‘anything but a backpack day’, the girls had a blast brainstorming funny and clever ways of carrying around their school materials without the use of a conventional backpack.

Eventually settling on go-carts with baskets attached provided tonnes of laughs and popularity at school, as well as another day for the memory books.

Break the convention of stereotypical adult life by playing your own ‘anything but’ game. (...sandwich, neck-tie, ball cap, car…etc.)

It will be great for your creativity, and likely be a boatload of fun.

  • Now that’s a peak ethos.
