Answer the call

At 45 years old, the jarring whiplash from being slammed across a boat wake, carries a bit of sting. However, when I was informed that tube number 2 needed more ballast, I was quick to embrace the chance. Being dragged around the lake with kids and cousins is living life fully, and helping each other not get tossed into the lake was a thrilling way to bond.

I’d be lying to say any of the kids were ‘excited’ to ride with dad, but they warmed up to the old guy, and we all had a blast.

Building lego, driving RC cars, riding skateboards, bouncing on the trampoline, hanging from playgrounds, playing catch, are but a few of the many ‘children’s’ activities that fatherhood has allowed me to ‘re-join’, and this reintroduction of my youthful passions has turned back my clock.

A  ‘grown-up’ mindset is a dangerous trap, and it is plainly evident that most activities involving ‘play’ are the world’s most potent anti-aging serum and get no less fun with age.

Next time you get have the opportunity to run a Hot Wheels car, or be player number six,

answer the call, and watch the years peel away.

  • Now that’s a peak ethos.
